Prof. Emil Rovner Masterclass(Cello)

Born in Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod), Russia, Emil Rovner made his solo debut at the age of 10 with the Gorky Symphony Orchestra. He studied cello with Anatoly Lukianenko, Ivan Monighetti and with Boris Pergamenschikow at the music academies in Madrid, Basel and Berlin, as well as singing with Ulrich Messthaler at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and conducting with Margarita Samorukova.
He received important artistic impulses from Mstislav Rostropovich, winning the First Prize as well as the Gewandhaus Prize at the 11th International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in the cello category. Ever since, he had been appearing regularly on major international stages and with renowned orchestras. Following the recommendation of Vladimir Ashkenazy, he made his solo debut with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich under Gary Bertini.

In recent years he has given concerts with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Berliner Symphonieorchester, the Munich Chamber Orchestra and the Basel Chamber Orchestra, the Camerata Bern and the Czech Chamber Philharmonic. His debut at the main auditorium of the Philharmonie Berlin won acclaim for his German premiere of the Cello Concerto by Boris Tschaikovsky, as did his debut at the Lucerne Festival. Furthermore, Emil Rovner is invited regularly to the major festivals, such as the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, Berliner Festwochen, Bachfest Leipzig, MDR Musiksommer, the "Viva Cello" Festival as well as the Festival "Les museiques" led by Gidon Kremer.

Emil Rovner has close working relationships with important living composers, such als Elena Firsova, Heinz Holliger, Per Norgard, Evgeny Shcherbakov, and Valentin Silvestrov. In 2003, Emil Rovner founded the festival "Resonanzen" in St. Moritz (CH), which has taken place every summer since. In October 2007, he was appointed as one of the youngest professors ever by the Music Academy "Carl Maria von Weber" in Dresden. Since October 2010 he is additionaly Professor at the "Centro Academico del Perfeccionamento Musical de Alicante" (CAPMA), Spain. Emil Rovner gives international master classes for cello in Switzerland, Italy, Portugal and Russia regularly and also acts as a jury member for International cello competitons.

Emil Rovners Debut Solo CD with Cello Works by Mieczyslaw Weinberg as well as a CD with the Cello Concerto by Jean Perrin with the Kammerakademie Potsdam are appearing in September 2010 (Label DIVOX).
