		Mein herzliches Willkommen allen Lehrenden und Lernenden, einheimischen wie angereisten Musikliebhabern zum internationalen Euro Music Festival in der Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Stadt Leipzig! Fünf aufeinanderfolgende Jahre findet diese vierwöchige Sommerakademie nun schon bei uns statt, sie führt in Meisterkursen international renommierte Professoren und hoch begabte junge Musiker aus allen Teilen der Welt zusammen. Begleitet von einer Vielzahl öffentlicher Konzerte, die den jahreszeitbedingt auch in unserer Stadt etwas lichteren Veranstaltungskalender enorm bereichern. Allein dafür gebührt dem koreanischen Veranstalter Euro Arts mit ihrem Prasidenten Young-Jun Lim Dank - ebenso wie der Hochschule für Musik und Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy", deren Engagement diese Sommerakademie ermöglichte. Aber nicht nur das. Es hat in Leipzig durchaus eine Historie, von Koryphän der Musik unterrichtet zu werden, ein begnadetes Talent zu vervollkommnen oder überhaupt die ersten Schritte zu gehen: Mendelssohn und Bach lehrten und wirkten an der Pleiße; Richard Wagner wurde bei uns geboren und fasste hier den Entschluss, Musiker zu werden. In Leipzig studierte er Harmonielehre, vollendete im zarten Alter von 15 Jahren nach zweijähriger Arbeit sein erstes "großes Trauerspiel" Leubald und Adelaide. Und nicht zu vergessen: Initiiert von Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy entstand in den Mauern unserer Stadt das erste Musikkonservatorium Deutschlands. Es war dies gleichsam die Overtüre, welche Leipzigs Weg zur heutigen weltbekannten Musikstadt einleitete. Internationale Festivals wie dieses sind der unerlässliche Takt, um eine so reiche Tradition am Leben zu erhalten und fortzuführen. Deshalb freue ich mich umso mehr über diese Sommerakademie und wurde mir wünschen, sie fande auch künftig bei uns in Leipzig statt. In diesem Sinne Ihnen einen angenehmen Aufenthalt und mögen Sie viele der Spuren entdecken, die berühmte Komponisten und Musiker in unserer Stadt hinterlassen haben.

		It is a pleasure for me to invite you to attend this year's Euro Music Festival in Leipzig. For nearly 4 weeks an international faculty of outstanding musicians will teach in Germany's oldest music academy: the Hochschule für Musik und Theater, founded by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy in 1843. Only the great city of Leipzig can offer you the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of Bach, Grieg, Mendelssohn, Reger, Schumann, Wagner and many other legendary musicians. Come and visit their homes, the many fine museums and historic buildings which testify to a unique, centuries-old tradition of musical excellence! I and my colleagues look forward to seeing you - and hearing you perform - in Leipzig this summer.

		Just the other day, an elderly lady stopped me in the streets and asked: "Tell me, young man, is there going to be another Euro Music festival this summer with all the young musicians and the many concerts?" And when I assured her that, yes, there is indeed going to be another Euro Music Festival, she replied: "Oh, that's so wonderful! My friends and I can't wait!" This public interest which will surely turn into elation and the appreciation of your work - this is my wish for you. Spend some inspiring and unforgettable days in this beautiful musical city of Leipzig, amass new experiences, which I hope you will remember for a very long time! Over the next 4 weeks, we - and I mean all of us - have the opportunity to create a musical centre whose echo can /will be felt well beyond Leipzig. I would like to send a very warm welcome to all visitors of our concerts, all of our participants, the professors and teachers. Our old new university, and the spirit of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy who is still very much alive in these halls, welcomes you with great joy. I would like to thank all those people who have made a major contribution in the realisation of our Euro Music Festival with their never tiring efforts behind the scenes. Above all, I want to express my gratitude to the president of Euro Arts, Mr. Young-Jun Lim and his staff, as well as to Mr. Schoenknecht and his crew at the artistic manager's office. Without their countless hours of work we would not be able to meet here, and the quarter around No. 8 Grassi Street would be taking its annual summer break nap. I would also like to very much thank the bank Sparkasse Leipzig for its financial support. With this bank's help, we have been able to realise additional projects that to us, as an educational institution, are very dear. I sincerely hope that, in the future, you will happily think back to the time you spent here and that the music spread its wondrous effects across all borders.
