George Kern

Pianist George Kern has performed as soloist, accompanist and in chamber music ensembles in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, and throughout Europe.

His European performances have included international festivals (Pablo Casals, Prades; Festival
du Marais, Paris; Europalia, Brussels; etc.) as well as performances in the Musikverein, Vienna (Brahms Saal), and for the Stiftung "Mozarteum" in Salzburg. Appearances in North America have included concerts for many of the Mozart Societies (Atlanta, New York, Toronto, etc.).

In addition, Kern has lectured, performed and held master classes in leading colleges and universities, including San Francisco State, San Francisco Conservatory, Eastman School of Music, University of Illinois, Indiana University, University of Miami and Rutgers University.

From 1979 until 1998, Kern was pianist for the Trio Amade. In 1984, in cooperation with the composer's heirs and the Henle Verlag, Munich, Kern gave the first performances of the newly discovered piano trio movement of Debussy for Radio France (Paris) and RTBL (Brussels). Prior to its publication, and with the continued support of Henle, Kern performed the Austrian premiere of the entire trio at the Boesendorfer Saal, Vienna.

Kern has taught guest courses in piano and chamber music at the International School for Chamber Music(Prades), the Toho School(Tokyo), the Paris Conservatory, in Korea and in the US.

A native of New Jersey Kern earned his BM and MM degrees from the Juilliard School, New York,where he was a student of the legendary Rosina Lhevinne.
Following additional studies in Salzburg with Kurt Neumuller, he earned the artist diploma from the Mozarteum. Kern has been the recipient of many state and private grants for research and performing projects. He also was awarded the Baumgartner Medal from the Stiftung Mozarteum ˇ°for outstanding interpretations of the works of Mozart.

He is Professor of Piano at the Mozareteum in Salzburg, where he has taught since 1975, and Guest Professor at the Toho School, Tokyo.

Konzerte in Europa, Asien, Nord- und Mittelamerika als Solist, Kammermusiker und Liedbegleiter. Auftritte bei mehreren Internationalen Festspiele (Paris, Brussels, Prades, Lugano, usw.) Pianist vom Trio Amade. Debussy Ur-Auffuehrungen, in Zusammenarbeit mit Henle Verlag, Muenchen, sowie den Erben des Komponisten, in Paris (Radio France) Brussels (RTBF) und Wien. Konzerte in Oesterreich, unter anderem, im Musikverein Wien (Brahmssaal) Brucknerhaus Linz, Boesendorfersaal, Wien, und für die Stiftung Mozarteum, Salzburg.

Konzerte, Gastkurse und Vorträge in mehreren Musikuniversitaeten von Amerika (Boston University, University of Illinois, Indiana University, University of Miami, Rutgers University, San Francisco Conservatory, usw.) Visiting Guest Professor an der Toho Schule, Tokyo. Weitere Gastkurse in Japan, Korea, und Frankreich.

Langjährige kuenstlerische Berater der Komische Kammeroper, Muenchen. Mitbegruender der Internationalen Solistenkurs mit der Mährischer Philharmonie (CZ). Jurymitglied internationalen Wettbewerbe in Frankreich, Italien, und Zypern. Universitätsprofessor für Klavier und Klavierkammermusik an der Universität Mozarteum, Salzburg.
