Musical training at the
Academy of Music Basel under Prof. Paul Szabo, later in Belgrad and
Prague under Prof.Stanislav Apolin. Masterclasses with Zara Nelsova,
Pierre Fournier, Sandor Vegh and the Janacek Quartet.
1976 Markus Nyikos won the Swiss Soloist's Prize , one year later
he was double prize-winner at the Gaspar Cassado Competition in Florence
(Italy) . |
He also was the recipient
of several fellowships and chamber music prizes .
From 1974 to 1979 Nyikos was principal cellist of the well known Lucerne
Festival Strings. Since 1979 he has held a professorship at the University
of the Arts in Berlin (Germany). His cello class has an excellent
reputation , and the students come from all continents to be trained
by him.
Markus Nyikos is also a frequently performing soloist and chamber
musician all over the world. He is member of the Philharmonisches
Klavierquartett Berlin (piano quartet) and principal cellist of the
Philharmonische Virtuosen Berlin (chamber orchestra) . As guest cellist
he played with famous ensembles as the Janacek-Quartet, the Stamitz-Quartet,
the Brandis-Quartet, the Berlin Philharmonic Oktet, the Jacques Thibaud
Trio , the Berliner Streichersolisten and others. He played for many
years as member of the famous "Twelve Cellists of the Berlin
Philharmonic Orchestra" and different other chamber groups of
this orchestra. Since more then 35 years, Markus Nyikos plays cello-piano
Duo with Jaroslav Smykal . Their repertoire contains about 130 compositions
from all musical epochs.
As soloist, Nyikos has performed with orchestras as Deutsches Sinfonieorchester
Berlin, Berlin Philharmonic Virtuosi, Basler Sinfonieorchester, Allgemeine
Musikgesellschaft Lucerne, Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, Philharmony
Kosice , London Soloists Chamber Orchestra, Camerata Zurich, Central
Philharmony Beijing, Shanghai Philharmony, Macao Symphony Orchestra,
Lucerne Festival Strings, Orchestra del Theatro Communale di Firenze.
Nyikos has made more then a dozen CD recordings as soloist and with
chamber music ensembles.
He toured in Japan, China, India, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand
as well as North-, Central- and Latin America, Canada, and of course
almost all European musical centres .
Der Cellist Markus Nyikos
studierte bei Paul Szabo in Basel und Stanislav Apolin in Prag. Neben
dem Studium absolvierte er Meisterkurse bei Pierre Fournier, Zara
Nelsova, Sandor Vegh und Stanislav Apolin. 1976 war er Gewinner des
Schweizer Solistenpreises und 1977 des Concours Gaspar Cassado in
Florenz. Im Jahre 1974 trat er die Stelle des Solocellisten des Festival
Strings Luzern an.
Seit 1979 ist Markus Nyikos Professor an der Universitat der Kunste
in Berlin. Er gibt regelma©¬ig Meisterkurse in Deutschland, Japan und
in der Schweiz. Neben seiner Lehrtatigkeit wirkt er bei mehreren Ensembles
der Berliner Philharmoniker z.B. mit dem Berliner Philharmonischen
Quartett und den Zwolf Cellisten. Markus Nyikos konzertierte mit beruhmten
Solisten wie James Galway, Aurele Nicolet, Saschko Gawriloff, Elena
Baschkirova, Konstanty Kulka und Pavel Gililov.
Seit uber 30 Jahren spielt er im Duo mit Jaroslav Smykal und hat in
dieser Besetzung zahlreiche CDs eingespielt.
