Robert Benz was given his first piano lessons by his father at the early age of four. He studied with Naoyuki Taneda at the Karlsruhe University of Music and with Rosina Lhevinne and Martin Canin at the Juilliard School in New York. |

He won the first prize at both International Busoni Competition in Bozen(1974) and the International Liszt-Bartok Competition in Budapest(1976). Concert tours brought him to various European countries, the USA, Korea and Japan. Robert Benz has recorded the complete cycle of Beethoven's piano sonatas on CD, and he had been the Trio Bamberg's pianist since 1996. In 1990 he became a professor of the piano at Mannheim University of music and since 2005 he had been the artistic director of the International Competition for Young Pianists Ettlingen. |

Robert Benz erhielt als Vierjähriger den ersten Klavierunterricht von seinem Vater. Er gewann 1974 im Intermationalen Busoni-Wettbewerb in Bozen und 1976 im Internationalen Liszt-Bartók-Wettbewerb in Budapest jeweils den ersten Preis. Konzertreisen führten ihn durch Europa, USA, Korea und Japan. Robert Benz hat den gesamten Zyklus der Klaviersonaten Beethovens auf CD eingespielt und ist seit 1996 der Pianist des Trio Bamberg. Seit 1990 ist er Professor für Klavier an der Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik in Mannheim und seit 2005 künstlerischer Leiter des Internationalen Wettbewerbs für junge Pianisten Ettlingen. |
