Certified as a young
gifted performer, Christine Yu has developed her unique character
by being granted numerous awards and her virtuosity. Receiving training
in Hochschule fuer Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien and Conservatoire
nationale Superieur musiqueet danse de Lyon, she has been an outstanding
flutist that brings together the German and Austrian traditions
and French style of flute performance.

Christine Yu started on flute
with Prof. Chen Tscheng-Hsiung. After receiving a championship in
Taiwan for flute solo of the National Student Music Competition, she
studied abroad with a scholarship to the Hochschule fuer Musik und
darstellende Kunst Wien. Ms. Yu double majored in Piano and Flute.
She studied flute with Wolfgang Schulz, solo flutist in the Wiener
Philharmoniker, and Barbara Gisler; and studied piano with E. Marzek,
Hans Graf, C. Adent-Graf, and J. Ossberger.
During her undergraduate studies in Vienna, she joined the "Ensemble
Vienna Flutist" in concert tours and recorded CDs. She received
a diploma of flute education from the Hochschule fuer Musik und darstellende
Kunst Wien in 1986 and received another premier diploma of flute performance
with honor in 1987. She went on to Paris to study with Alain Marion.
At the same time she entered the Conservatoire nationale Superieur
musique et danse de Lyon and Conservatoire musique de Geneve and further
developed her skills with Maxence Larrieu. She also attended master
classes of Peter-Lukas Graf, Michel Debost, Aurele Nicolet, and Andras
Adorjan. Ms. Yu passed the graduation exam and received the advanced
diploma from the Conservatoire musique de Geneve in 1989.
After returning to Taiwan she received the honor and was invited to
appear on the "Young Star Series" presented by the National
Concert Hall. Being invited as the flute soloist, she traveled to
Budapest to record with the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra. She
was subsequently invited to perform a solo concert in NCH. In 2008,
Ms. Yu joined international renowned flutist, Patrick Gallois, in
Doppler's double flute concerto performance with the Taipei Symphony
Orchestra. Ms. Yu is currently the principal flute of Taipei Symphony
Orchestra and a member of the Taipei Woodwind Quintet.
In the area of music education, Ms. Yu has contributed with great
effort and influenced many with her enthusiasm on music making and
teaching. She is an Associate Professor at the National Taiwan Normal
University, Soochow University, and Fu Jen Catholic University.
Ms. Yu has dedicated her talents through tireless efforts and promotion
of flute playing. She has continually present concerts titled "Classical
series of flute" since 1995. In 2007 she established the "YU
Flute Choir" to popularize the art of flute playing and appreciation
of music. |
